Pointe Schools was founded by four families who were committed to creating a high school that would support parents as they built character and
leadership qualities in their teens, provide an excellent education, and be financially accessible to everyone. Since no such high school existed in the
northwest valley, the founders individually explored avenues to establish such a school. In the fall of 1999 they came together and formed Pointe
Schools, a non-profit corporation, in order to open and operate an
independent public high school that would fill this unmet need.
After a year of planning, the State Board For Charter Schools granted Pointe Schools a contract to open their first school. In August of 2001, North
Pointe Preparatory opened on 51st Avenue and Union Hills with ten teachers, six classrooms and 130 students in grades 7-9. Students were
provided with a traditional education with a “classical” emphasis. The curriculum was designed to prepare students for college, with College
Preparatory, Honors, and Advanced Placement courses being required of all students. In addition to the academic emphasis, the school truly
functioned as a community. By November, three more classrooms and a library were completed. Stanford 9 test scores for that year were well above
the state averages.
The Prep was such a success that parents began asking about the possibility of opening an elementary school that would set the foundation for the
secondary school. In the Spring of 2002 the State Board for Charter Schools expanded Pointe Schools charter to include Kindergarten through Sixth
grade and Canyon Pointe Academy was born. A group of seasoned elementary teachers joined Pointe Schools and worked through the summer
without pay to make sure that the school was ready to open. The Prep had already outgrown the Union Hills site, so Canyon Pointe Academy moved
in and the Prep moved into a site at 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road.
The 2002-2003 school year was full of growth and change for Pointe Schools. Canyon Pointe Academy opened with 160 students, North Pointe
Preparatory almost tripled in size to 350 students, and a second elementary school was added to the Pointe Schools family. The new school,
Pinnacle Pointe Academy, was located on 67th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road and opened in September of 2002 with just under 25 students in
grades K-4. Two Canyon Pointe Academy teachers and their classes moved to Pinnacle Pointe and provided leadership for the new school. By the
end of the year, enrollment at Pinnacle had increased to over 90 students.
Since 2003 many new and exciting things have happened on Pointe Schools campuses. The Prep moved to its current location at 43rd Avenue and
Peoria and has grown to over 700 students. The campus has expanded to include a second gymnasium, fitness/weight facilities, 14 additional
classrooms, band and choir rooms, music labs, a remodeled theatre, an on-campus TV station (preptv), and the fabulous Prep Café. Additionally,
the Prep received accreditation from the North Central Association as a College Preparatory School and was placed into the Arizona Interscholastic
Association's 2A Central League for high school athletics.
The final phase of Pointe Schools' five-year facility improvement plan was completed in 2008 with Canyon Pointe and Pinnacle Pointe's new cafe and
classroom buildings and expanded playground facilities.

Pointe Schools is Committed to the Three A's
Academics
The 2008 AIMS results were revealed to the public on August 6, 2008 and reveal that once again Pointe students continue to excel academically. The
Arizona Republic listed North Pointe Preparatory’s tenth grade writing scores among the top in the state with 92% of the sophomore class meeting or
exceeding the standard in writing. Among other notable scores at the Prep was the 94% passing rate in writing by the eighth grade class. Pointe’s
elementary schools also revealed scores that were among the top in the valley. Canyon Pointe Academy’s fifth graders had a passing rate of 90% for
writing and 92% for math. The sixth grade at Canyon earned an impressive 96% in writing. Pinnacle Pointe Academy, the smallest of the Pointe
schools also continued to post big test scores this year. In third grade, 92% met or exceed the standard in math and 96% met or exceeded the
standard in writing. Pinnacle's sixth grade writing score was in the top twenty sixth grade writing scores in the state with 96% of the students meeting
or exceeding the standard. “These test results remind us that our students not only have fun and enjoy school but they are a part of an excellent
academic program,” said Pointe Schools Superintendent Jody Johnson. “One of my priorities has always been to work just as hard at providing a fun,
memorable school experience for our students as we do at providing them with a solid academic foundation. That balance is important to our families
and really sets us apart from the other top performing schools.” North Pointe Preparatory continues to be one of only six public schools in the State
of Arizona accredited by the prestigious North Central Association as a College Preparatory School. NCA is one of the largest accrediting
associations in America and accreditation ensures that North Pointe meets the highest standards of educational excellence.
Athletics
It is amazing what Pointe Schools has accomplished in its brief seven year history in athletics. From the early days of scrimmaging, to actual
competition in the Arizona Interscholastic Association's 2A Central League, North Pointe has come a long way fast. "In the beginning we tried to play
anyone we could just to get our athletic teams established," said Jody Johnson, Pointe Schools Superintendent. "To be honest, we got beaten up a
lot." Those early losses, however, did not cause the Prep to lose heart or re-think its commitment to athletics. In fact, their passion to one day be a
school of academic and athletic excellence was renewed with every competition. That passion culminated during the 2005-2006 school year as the
Prep played in the State Championship game in four of the Charter Athletic Association's five Varsity tournaments. They won the Baseball and
Softball State Titles and were runner up in Volleyball and Girls Basketball. That same year the Prep's Varsity Cheer team experienced an amazing
year winning National and International tournaments culminating with their victory in front of thousands at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California.
The Prep's Jr. High athletics have also excelled winning four straight Titles in Football and the 2007 Jr. Metro Baseball Championship. Pointe Schools
is also committed to athletics at the elementary level and with the addition of Canyon Pointe and Pinnacle Pointe's new courts and fields, 4th-6th
graders are competing in after school intramural athletic programs.
Arts
Pointe Schools is pursuing excellence in the Arts with the same passion and commitment as it has with academics & athletics. The Prep recently
created a new administrative position, Director of Arts, and completed several renovation projects including a new 1800 square foot band room, a
choir room, guitar and piano labs, and a remodeled performing arts theatre. In addition, the Prep has doubled the size of its Arts instructors over the
past two years. Pointe Schools is also bringing Arts to the elementary level with music instruction, choir and theatre after school programming, and
sixth grade band instruction from Prep faculty.

Pointe Schools History
Pointe Schools 'Project Child Find'
Pointe Educational Services has created 'Project Child Find' in order to identify children with disabilities. This project aims to service children who are
not currently receiving special education or who require extra support, modifications, and/or adaptations in order to progress in the general
curriculum. Pointe Schools have programs for children with many different abilities. Please contact the special education department for further
information.

Parent Ratings Rise
During the Spring 2009 Parent Survey, Pointe Schools once again received
overwhelmingly positive feedback. Parents were asked to rate the education their child
received; excellent, good, fair, or poor. Like last year, 99% of the parents responding said
the education provided by Pointe Schools was either excellent or good. However, this
year more parents gave their school the highest rating of excellent. While 72% rated the
education excellent last year, 80% gave it an excellent this year. At Pinnacle Pointe
Academy, the smallest of the Pointe Schools, 90% of the parents rated the education
excellent. “When Pointe Schools was founded, we committed to providing an excellent
education in a positive, supportive environment,” said Pointe Schools Superintendent,
Jody Johnson. “Our teachers and principals continue to work tirelessly to keep that
commitment. We are so fortunate to have supportive parents who love what we do and
spread the word!” Pointe Schools is comprised of three schools; North Pointe
Preparatory, Canyon Pointe Academy, and Pinnacle Pointe Academy. The schools have
received state and national recognition for their educational programs.
