GOVERNOR BREWER APOINTS SUPERINTENDENT JOHNSON
Governor Jan Brewer has appointed Superintendent Johnson to serve on the Commission for Postsecondary Education as a senior Executive at an Arizona Charter School The Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education's (ACPE) mission is to expand access and increase successes in postsecondary education for Arizonans. ACPE works to increase academic assistance; overseeing the Arizona Family College Savings Program (529 Plan) and several grants. The Commission also identifies and implements strategies to help students and families plan, enter and succeed in postsecondary education. It provides a forum for all sectors of postsecondary education to work together addressing and solving issues of mutual interest.
Superintendent Johnson believes the Commission's mission and goals are a natural fit for her. "Since I became a teacher over 20 years ago, I've been dedicated to preparing students for success in postsecondary education so they can pursue their dreams," said Superintendent Johnson. "That is why i created Pointe Schools. However, it doesn't matter how much we prepare them if families aren't able to pay for it. I believe the work of the Commission is vital to increasing Arizona students' access to education after high school and I'm honored that Governor Brewer appointed me."
Commissioner Johnson is serving a three year term. For more information on the Commission's work visit highered.az.gov.
